Abstract

A method is described for determination of gold in cyanide solutions. The gold(I) cyanide is extracted directly into an organic solvent. Cyanide is a rapidly acting, potentially highly toxic, deadly chemical. It can result in substantial environmental impacts and public health risks if released into environment. The method is faster than methods reported previously, the precision and accuracy are good, no interference by other elements could be detected. This test method covers the determination of gold (Au) in “gold Cyanide” solutions in the 0.300 mg/mL to 10.0 mg/mL. Gold was determined directly in Gold Cyanide Plating Solutions, by atomic absorption spectroscopy in an acetylene-flame.
