Review of Contemporary Apparel Technologies Linkages with Sustainable Rural Living Maintenance in Ondo State of Nigeria

Nigeria government focus extensively on textile industry potency to generate employment through textile technologies development as far back before independent but failed in handling its various units peculiarities. The failure overlooked significance of certain textile sections such as apparel and soft furnishing of consumer textile for domestic purposes in the national economic development. The paper therefore focuses on establishing the linkages between contemporary technologies in apparel industry and sustainable rural living maintenance. The paper specifically examined cultural-dynamic, investigates socio-economic costumes and, visibility values of contemporary apparel technologies (CAT) linkages with sustainable rural living maintenance. Purposive sampling procedure was employed in selecting ten Local Government Areas and 25% of group of villages from each Local Government Ares for the study in Ondo State. A clustering and snowball sampling techniques were employed in selecting 1,081 [1]textilis across the state. Questionnaire and focus group discussion were used in data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in summarizing the data and making deductions. It was established that contemporary apparel technologies have high linkages with rural living maintenance in Ondo State. CAT was compatible with the environment and shows high relative advantages over previous existing ones of an average cost to benefits return value. The respondents were satisfied with CAT psychosocial derivative but not with its monetary benefits return. Results of factor analysis highlighted five factors (socio-technical, visibility, economic prowess, values orientation and, risk control) of CAT as having strong linkages with sustainable rural living maintenance. The identified factors are vital determinants of effectiveness in policy-making and implementation of CAT programs for sustainable rural living, but there is need to prioritize material inputs and labours accessibility. It is very essential to establish formal training centers as well as marketing mechanisms on CAT to enhance patronages.
