The ongoing process of globalization has had a profound impact on organizations across the world. One of the challenges that companies face in the globalized landscape is the management of a culturally diverse workforce, which includes varied values, beliefs, and attitudes toward management practices. In some cases, cultural differences may result in conflict rather than foster synergy (Hofstede, 2018). A comprehensive understanding of these cultural differences is essential for organizations to mitigate sources of conflict and capitalize on the potential competitive advantages that arise from a diverse workforce. Within this context, the aim of this paper is to identify the management capabilities required to operate effectively in a diverse workplace. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews with experienced German managers from European Union (EU) organizations with diverse workforces, along with quantitative data collected through an online survey. The results of this study indicate that managers possessing a global mindset are better equipped to successfully navigate the challenges of managing a diverse workforce. Findings have also revealed that managers with an open attitude toward cultural diversity and strong communication skills are more likely to prevent conflicts and, consequently, enhance organizational performance and competitive advantage.
