Teachers’ Assessment Strategies and Students’ Attitude Towards Examination Misconduct in Public Secondary Schools in Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

This study examined Teachers' Assessment Strategies and Students’ attitude Towards Examination Misconduct in Public Public secondary schools in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Three research questions were posed and three hypotheses formulated to guide the study. The study adopted a survey research design. A sample of 200 students was drawn from the total population of 2,950 students for the study using a random sampling technique. Data for the study were generated through the administration of the researchers' designed instrument tagged "Teachers' Assessment Strategies and Students’ attitude Towards Assessment Misconduct Questionnaire (TASSAEMQ)". Data collected using this instrument was analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation and t-test statistics. The findings revealed that there is a significant influence of' examination, continuous assessment and class exercise as teachers' assessment strategies on students’ attitude towards assessment misconduct in public secondary schools in Itu Local Government Area. The findings also indicated that students’ attitude towards Examination misconduct among secondary are differently influenced by examination, continuous assessment test, and class exercise as teachers' assessment strategies. It was therefore recommended among others that students should develop capabilities in analyzing their own learning and become self-directed learners. Teacher and students should adopt properly conducted examination, continuous assessment test and class work devoid of misconducts as effective assessment strategies adopted teachers as a means of evaluating their performances.
