Abstract

The study explored the impact of conflicts in the Northern Region of Ghana on human security, strategies for mitigation, and the role of community leaders. Utilizing a qualitative approach and case study design, data were collected through in-person interviews with twenty participants selected through purposive and convenience sampling. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings show that conflicts in the region have led to the disruption of socioeconomic activities and livelihoods, destruction of infrastructure, human rights violations, and violence, which have contributed to heightening human insecurity. The study emphasized the importance of a multifaceted approach to addressing these issues, including enhancing social cohesion and trust, strengthening peacebuilding efforts, providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations, and tackling socioeconomic development challenges as well as trauma associated with the conflicts. Furthermore, the significant role of community leaders in conflict mitigation and fostering peace was emphasized. The study concluded that peacebuilding efforts should prioritize human resilience and the reduction of fear and want among individuals in the region.
