Abstract

The nature of social connections among the several ethnic groups of Nigeria and their consequences for peaceful coexistence are examined in this work. The study looks at patterns of inter-ethnic relations. It points out important obstacles including horizontal disparities, political manipulation, and religious differences using secondary data from academic literature, policy documents, and institutional reports. The results show that although metropolitan areas show more intergroup cooperation via shared economic venues and inter-ethnic marriages, rural areas have ongoing difficulties stemming from historical grudges and socioeconomic inequalities. The paper emphasises how grassroots projects, participatory government, and peace education could help to promote unity. Suggestions are given to solve structural inequalities and foster trust-building across ethnic boundaries, therefore helping Nigeria's plural society to be in lasting peace.
